Imagine that

Well well well. What can I say!

I know that Canada can be a cruel place to live sometimes but I didn't realize that this place was a penal colony? Wha nuh wonder some a we West Indians duz ketch hell up hayso.

How ya mean? Well that can be the only conclusion I can come to when a U.S judge sentences a U.S citizen convicted of a crime on U.S soil to a choice of one year in jail or alternatively 3 years parole in Canada. Imagine that ish!

Ok so the guy has been residing here in Fort Erie and commuting to his job in the U.S but that's not the point. He's still a U.S citizen. Since when can you up and decide to send a fellow that commit a crime in your country, the country of which he is a citizen I might add, on parole in another person's country just so?

I mean its bad enough that North America (both U.S and Canada) deports people that grow up here from babies to their country of birth when its full well know they learn all their criminal activities in North America. Its like they are trying to blame the birthplace, of which most of the criminals know little of, for what the person became and dumping a North American problem at the doorsteps of countries, like those in the Caribbean, that don't have the resources to cope with an influx of these sophisticated criminals. In other words is juss mekkin bad worse.

No but now that's not enough. No now you got to send away your own criminal citizens now.

No star no disrespect to my American friends but I think y'all gone too far this time.

Still is not like Canada can or will do anything about it besides kick up a loud noise anyways. What we could do anyways, flood the maple syrup market or something so? Chupse!

What would be even worse though is if the fella decide to say something like "No your honor sir, don't be so cruel. I will take the year in jail sir. Please please don't send me to Canada. I learn my lesson. I am on the straight and narrow from now on. Just don't send me cross there sir. You don't know what its like cross there. Please I beg ya let me stay here!"

Wouldn't that be a thing!

That's kinda like de judge was sayin', "Stay home (anywhere in Ontario or Canada, in general), teacher; don't return to the scene of the crime (anywhere in the US)." Ah mean, if he were under house arrest, he'd B home -- just that they consider all o' Canada his home:)

actually our age of consent is 14 but if one of the persons is in a postion of authority over the other person like a teacher which is what he was then the age of consent raises to 18 so he would have still broken the law here

Canada is to the US, what Australia used to be to the British, send us your guns and convicts.....

Crankyputs pretty much summed up what I was going to say, but with a different spin. Canada has long been a form of refuge for those seeking escape from wars, and convicts on the run.. but sentencing? This is news to me man.

Well yuh don't say, onlee in America, but if detables did turn, America woulda quickly deport he back tuh Canada, hey that's what de Canadians should do. deport he backside back tuh de US, withdraw de work and residence permits

The charges seem so vague. All I've ever read is that they spent two hours in a car together. And if he isn't Canadian then they should not be sending him back here.

As you said they deport persons who really are foreigners to the country of their birth. So, I suppose it's not surprising to hear this

Typical US behaviour. Send the scum back to his homeland. He'll blemish the purity of the red, white and blue.

I'm with Miz JJ, I have yet to actually see any details...it all seems so vague. But regardless, why you sending him here?

I don't mean to laugh but it's the truth, people here leave good lives, big homes, to go to Canada, live on welfare.

I've always thought that the American Justice system was crazy, this just firther convinces me.

Ri, you sound a little prejudiced on this one... ;)

So... Canada sign something with the US and never read the fine print, or wah?

That is way too weird. Can't Canada refuse to let him in. He's not a dual is he?

I need more details. I'm not too familiar with the judicial process as I have never had to deal with the system cept for a traffic violation.

Just like the US to take those kind of liberties.

I don't see what the big fuss is though. All Canada need to do is refuse him entry? They didn't say he has dual citizenship, he just resides in Canada.

Quite out of order of the USA. They think they can do anything they please.

This is an interesting case for a lot of reasons.

He was a fool to do what he did, and I think that the Judge did something more valuable than sending him quietly to a Upstate NY jail for a year.
He shamed him.
Exposed him so that this case now has had world press.
Let this be a lesson to all teachers and people in positions of authority.

I feel sorry for his family.
They did nothing to deserve the shame of his immature and selfish acitons.

He is a permanent Canadian resident, but from what I understand, cannot work here....and now, most certainly cannot work in his trained profession, here or in the US.

Way to ruin your life.
The girl in question is 15, and I reckon that it might have been consentual.
He took advantage of the situation, and now he's paying the price.

What a fool.
