Old acquaintances

Twice last week I've run into old acquaintances.

First on Tuesday on the subway platform waiting to transfer trains I saw this girl from my University days. Its weird because first glance I was like yea I know you from somewhere but where? Then the memory came back. Oh yea we worked on a project for class back in 3rd year. Right! But what is your name? Anyway I saw her glance over my way and I think she recognized me too but its not like we were best buds or even friends or anything so we just stood there, and glanced at each other every now and then probably both trying to remember each others names until the train came and we got into separate cars.

To be honest up to this moment I still don't remember her name but I can remember who she hung out with in class. Makes you wonder though. She looked like she had done alright in life but who can tell. I always wonder what my classmates are up to these days. If I knew it'd probably depress me anyways.

Then on Friday, I decided to take an extended lunch, hop on the train and go to the mall. Oh man, I remember when I thought malls were exciting. I must have been a teenager back then. Now they are just plain run of the mill boring. I'm in, I'm out its a wrap!

So was regretting my decision to go to the mall, strolling my way back to work when I walked past this cat who looked familiar. Hey that looks like one of my boy from back in the days but naa that was a long time ago and another place. I haven't seen him since like 1992 or something. Naa that can be him, he's probably in Barbados drinking a Banks and enjoying the hot sun right now.

Still that cat looks awfully like him. Oh well, being that I'm not the type to be like hey man you look familiar I walked past and was just about to file away that memory when I heard a semi-familiar voice call me. Oh snap it is him! Wow!

It really is kinda of weird running into people you used to know. I ran into an old classmate from college a few weeks ago and if he didn't recognize me I would have walked right by him and that was someone I saw almost every day for 4 years.

I'm running across more people on the internet than a little bit. I also know exactly what most of the people I went to school with are doing by the first question they usually ask me. "So, how many kids do you have?"

The fact that you take the subway and work near a mall...I assume you work in DT TO, and Now I am going to have to scrutinize everyone around and wonder is that him?

I know what you mean about seeing old aquintances/friends. Funny to see how everyone's life has progressed. I once met an old high school friend at a local tim's, she was working the drive thru, and she said in this really sad voice, oh you were always a smart girl. She said it without any malice, just sadness, and it felt horrible. Life!

I have no such luck, I hardly run into old aquaitances, I guess I am the one who ran away and don't expect to see them where I am now.
But you should have hailed the girl, just like ole boye hailed you.

I can remember a few of those. I even have had extended convos with persons and cannot for the life of me remember their names...and trust me they are calling me by mine... :D

That non-meetin' on de platform musta felt a bit awkward. If we couldn't immediately recall each other, I'd also have "held mi corna."

Much like Amadeo, I run into folks mostly on the web, especially from Classmates.com... but, sometimes when I go back home to NYC, I do run into some old homeys and acquaintances... I'll forget a name in a minute, but I never forget a face...

Before I moved I knew everyone and everyone knew me. I couldn't even go to the grocery store without running into an acquaintance. Once of the things I like about my new city is that I am very much under the radar. It's great!

Hahaha. I remember practically living in the malls as a teenager. I can't stand them now.

It's great meting up old acquaintances. It can get a bit embarrassing if you just can't remember the person no matter how hard you try
