Pregnant or not?

Have you ever been speaking to or in the presence of someone who you were sure was pregnant just because of the way they looked only to later find out that you were mistaken?

No I not trying to diss fat people cause all fat people dont look pregnant and at the same time all pregnant people up to a certain stage dont look fat. No what I'm talking about is when the stomach fat sits a certain way and it just looks like the person is pregnant.

Why I'm asking is because I almost made a major faux pax and almost asked a lady that I thought was pregnant when she's due.

It was a few weeks back. I had to go see this lady in another office to get something done. So to expediate the matter and since everytime I go into that office I does get greeted by all sort of screw face people I decide I going in and try to be extra nice and the like.

When I get there she was seated but her belly was big and round and I thought well I guess she pregnant so maybe I should try and steer the conversation towards kids cause I dont know if you know but that is a good way to bond with people.

Yes I just find that out since having the yout last year. All a sudden people that didnt used to talk ta ya, especially women, once they know that you have a child they duz start telling you all their children stories. Everybody duz have advice and stories about daycare and feeding and changing and potty training and diapers and baby medicine and all sort of thing so. Its like a special club that you dont know exist until you have a child. The stories duz just start to flow once they hear that you now have children. Not that I personally want to hear those stories but ya duz just have to stand there and shake ya head and nod and say oh and act like ya really interested.

So when I see this lady looking pregnant I say well maybe I should steer the converstaion towards kids, mayb ask her when she going on maternity leave or something so in order for her to realize that I'm a friendly fella so she wouldnt be always looking vex whenever i walk in her office.

Well boy all I can say is a good thing I never do that cause a week later I see her walking around and she didnt look pregnant to me at all. Imagine now if I had asked her when she due or when she going on maternity leave. Cuhdear she might have cuss me or throw something at me.

So yea let me know if you ever been a situation like that where you thought somebody was pregnant open ya mout too fast and realize ya mek a mistake.

Lawd, this is so familiar. Almost asked the dreaded question with an aquaintance that I had not seen in a couple of years. Her belly was looking poofy, and I was going to tease he on the bun in the oven, but faithfully, I kept my mouth shut. Her belly was just perpetully swollen.

Pretending to be an insensitive man saves me from that...I let the ladies bring it up.

i did that once, and got the dirtiest look EVER.....she was plain mean, and it was an honest mistake....so now i just walk around smiling and saying, pot bellies are the new black, until someone corrects me.

Thanks for doing a post for me!

oh yeah, i've been down that road. i once asked a woman i use to work with when i first met her when she was due and she reponded due for what? i stood quietly looking dumbfounded and she responded, damn i'm little fat, not pregnant. i was so embarassed and i know she was too. it wasn't the way to start off my first week on the job, but oh well. i wasn't trying to call her fat, but stomach was out there so naturally i thought she was prego.

I have that discussion right up there with politics, sexual orientation and religion. I never ask and stay wide of those topics.

I was talking to a guy I knew who had a young baby, (maybe 1.5 to 2) His wife awalked up and chatted 4 a bit, then walked off again and I asked him when she was due? He gave me the strangest look and said "She not pregnant!" sort've indignantly. I said "Oh sorry... nice seeing you... ttyl." :)

Man, I almost wish you had said something. I never say anything until I get a firm signal. No need to make enemies.

it seems like big belly is the way to go nowadays. I was working wiid dis young girl a few weeks back and by everymeans she look like she was pregnant, and I couldn't tell one way or another if she was pregnant of just fat, so I keep my mouth shut. I never saw her again, so I don't know.

Oh yes, I've been there. There was a girl that worked a couple of doors down from the resturant I worked at. She looked like she was walking around with a ball stuffed under her shirt! Who wouldn't think she was pregnant?? I didn't say anything, but some of the guys asked someone she worked with and they said "No, she's not pregnant. Why do you ask?" like they couldn't see the basketball sized belly!

It's really amazing, seeing as I'm normally all about social gaffes and faux pas, that I haven't yet made that particular mistake. Even when I'm sure the woman I'm talking to mus' be pregnant, you'll never hear me mention it first. In some cases, I half suspect it's rude not to bring it up with the person bellying up to you, but still I shut up.

Tell you what doe bruh, I've done worse: ever make the colossal mistake of complimenting a woman on the smoothness of her foundation? If you haven't, consider yourself forewarned.

I would never say anything. Women retain most of their fat, weight, pounds in the middle so that is too sticky to assume.

My Dad did it to my cousin wife several years ago, and he is a dude dat like to point, and he point straight to her belly and say "Congrats" and she just fat to blood seed. Anyhow, you think he can get embarrassed, in all of his 70 years I neva seen him embarassed yet. I felt it, in fact when I remember it I still feel it to blouse.
