Ya cant even leave home these days

Boy to tell ya the truth me 'fraid a clubs in Toronto these days. To be honest I aint been to nuh sorta club unless it is a calypso fete or an actual live performance in donkey years. I remember going to the Guvernment night club a few years back, probably the last time that I went to any sort of club night and my bredren was chatting wid the bouncer that he knew from high school. Fast forward a few months later and that same bouncer was getting killed at that club and I was like damn!

Today's story is about how this 26 year old mother of 4 (a wha she doing wid so much pickney at 26 doah? She tek this be fruitful and multiply thing a lil too serious?) got gunned down in a night club here in Toronto. Livette Miller's friends invited her to go out with them and have a night on the town to forget her troubles as a recent widow and current single mom raising 4 kids. Well boy trouble don't set up like rain and today Livette is no longer with us as she got caught in a hail of bullets, an unintended target in a violent shoot-out. She left home to go forget her troubles but ran headlong into bigger problems.

See dat is why anytime ya leave home and arrive back safely ya have ta say thanks to the father cause like Buju say 'only 'im know how we get thru every day'.

It aint safe no more. Especially in the club. Too many punk ass kids with access to weapons who don't even feel no way about opening up and spraying the place. Is video game and movie fe blame? Or is lawless parent who aint training dem children properly? Now because of that 4 kids are orphans today. Damn! Too much rass foolishness a gwan! The madness never ceases.

Rest in peace Livette Miller.

Sorry to hear this. Dem clubs doh have metal detectors...or dem nuh check for weapons before people enter?

This is another reason why I try to go out in a group...of say 2-4. Now, of course this nuh gurantee
that if shyte tek place my life will be spared, but hopefully at least one bredrin will be around to tell de tale if crap gwaan.

Who to blame?? Not easy...poor parenting, lack of education, unemployment, 'get rich quick' mentality, urbanisation, lack of respect for the rights and lives of others...takes nutten for a man to feel 'dissed' nowadays and retaliate how him feel, dance hall, MTV, BET, whatever.... if you ask me its mulitfactorial.

This sorta ting is also one of the reasons why I don't frequent dem jam packed nightclubs, in the event of a crisis, you can't even get to move.

I wonder what circumstances lead to the death of the children's father? All dem ting jus mek me feel like cuss rass fe true. What a world JDid! Four pickney wid neither mother nor father. Hope family will take up the raising of the children so they don't turn out wutliss. Dr. D.

my dear jdid, my lady did not run headlong into anymore problems, as she is now--sadly--dead and gone.

it is for this type of circumstance alone that i refuse to patronize predominantly "black" -- sorry, "urban" events and establishments. i don't mean to hate on my people, but too often there is some kind of senseless violent act or line jumping or fighting or just simple wusslessness that can ruin a night for everyone.

i won't even go to caribana or any associated parties because i'm tired of being on edge all night. my last run-in with a bullet was at club that has since closed down. i was close enough to feel the heat from the gunfire, and i will never forget the smell of gunpowder or the weird pop-pop-pop sound of shots being fired and the panicked look of patrons as they fled for safety. and forget women and children first; grown men were pushing women aside and trying to stuff themselves into the smallest of crevices in order to save themselves.

that shit ain't right, it ain't funny, and it ain't getting any better. i'll stick to intimate get togethers with friends and dinners out, please.

What a shame...4 kids orphaned for no apparent reason. Night clubs are no longer what they used to be, a place to enjoy the night danicng away and hopefully catching a fella or girls interest.
I havn't been to one in yrs and don't miss them either. House parties with selective guest are the thing to do now.

I think the whole violence in the clubs and other urban setting comes from a lack of respect for life. The yutes nowadays, din get nuh home training, cause most ah dem parents ein too much olda dan dem and evabodie think dem is bad johns and invincible. We have to take back our kids, music and streets.

It's everywhere Jdid. It's something about values in society. Life has no worth it's just "if yuh mash mi corn I kill yuh". No biggy just another funeral. When did we get so callous?

Some people are just cold and uncaring. They don't care about the consequences of their actions. How can you tell me if you shoot up a crowded club, you didn't expect to hit someone innocent? Chupse. You just didn't care whether or not you hit them.

And all the blasted people who saw who killed this woman need to open their mouths and say something or this ignorance will continue.

But what goes around comes around, and while that doesn't bring this woman back to her children, it's true. God isn't sleeping.

@purfiktgurl - indeed
@campfyah - So who ta blame for the kids not the parents?
